Programme Pattern
Course Duration: 3 Years
Phase 1 – Academic & Practical Maritime Training (3 Years)
Candidates undergo 3 years of academic and practical maritime training at a DG Shipping-approved maritime institute. The programme includes classroom learning, simulator training, navigation, seamanship, cargo operations, ship stability, maritime law, meteorology, bridge watchkeeping, and maritime safety training.
Students receive practical exposure through workshops, bridge simulators, marine communication systems, and onboard familiarization to develop professional maritime competencies required for deck officer careers.
Phase 2 – Onboard Sea Training
After successful completion of the academic programme, candidates undergo onboard sea training onboard merchant vessels through sponsoring shipping companies to gain practical shipboard experience and hands-on maritime operational knowledge.
Phase 3 – Certificate of Competency Examination
Upon completion of the required sea service, candidates become eligible to appear for the 2nd Mate (FG) Certificate of Competency Examination as per DG Shipping norms, enabling them to progress toward officer-level careers in the Merchant Navy.
