STCW Course

Programme Pattern
Course Duration: Varies depending on the course module (typically from a few days to a few weeks)
Phase 1 – Classroom & Practical Training
Candidates undergo theoretical and practical maritime safety training at DG Shipping-approved STCW institutes. The training includes classroom sessions, practical demonstrations, simulator-based learning, firefighting drills, sea survival techniques, and emergency response exercises.
Phase 2 – Practical Safety Assessment
Candidates participate in hands-on practical assessments to demonstrate competency in firefighting, personal survival techniques, safety awareness, first aid, and emergency response procedures as per international maritime regulations.
Phase 3 – Certification
Upon successful completion of training and assessments, candidates are awarded DG Shipping-approved STCW certifications, which are mandatory for joining merchant vessels and pursuing careers in the maritime industry.

Entry Requirements
Age
Minimum 17.5 Years (varies depending on the course and institute requirements)
Educational Qualification
- 10th or 12th Pass from a recognized board (depending on course eligibility)
- Valid documents as per DG Shipping requirements
Medical Standards
Candidates must be medically fit for sea service as per Merchant Navy medical standards:
- Physically fit for maritime training
- Good eyesight (requirements may vary by course)
- No major medical restrictions for sea service
English Proficiency
Basic understanding of English communication is preferred as maritime training and shipboard communication are conducted in English.
