GP RATING

GP Rating is an entry-level course designed to train students to work in both Deck and Engine Departments of ships.

Course Highlights:

  • Duration: 6 Months (Residential)
  • Entry Level: Ordinary Seaman (OS) / Trainee Wiper
  • Career Path for DECK Department: Trainee OS → OS → Able Seaman → Bosun
  • Career Path for ENGINE Department: Trainee Wiper → Wiper → Oiler → Motorman
  • Includes practical training such as: Rope work , Maintenance work , Fire fighting , Shipboard operations

Eligibility:

  • Minimum 10th Pass with 40% & 40 Marks in English
  • Age: From 17.5–25 years
  • Medically fit as per DG Shipping Norms & Global Marine Standards

Outcome:

  • Students receive CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate) and become eligible to join ships as Trainee OS or Trainee Wiper worldwide

DNS ( Diploma in Nautical Science )

Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) is a one-year pre-sea training course that leads to a B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Science) and prepares students to become Deck Officers in the Merchant Navy.

Course Highlights:

  • Duration: 1 Year Pre-Sea Training (Residential)
  • Entry Position: Deck Cadet
  • Career Path: Deck Cadet →Third Officer → Second Officer → Chief Officer → Captain
  • Focus: Navigation, Seamanship, Cargo Handling, Ship Operations
  • Requires IMUCET qualification and Sponsorship

Eligibility:

  • 12th Pass with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM)
  • Age: From 17.5–25 years
  • Minimum 60% in PCM
  • Good English communication
  • Medically fit as per DG Shipping Norms & Global Marine Standards

Outcome:

  • Students receive Pre-Sea Training Certificate from DG Shipping Approved Institutes in India and become eligible to join ships as Deck Cadet

HND-NS (Higher National Diploma in Nautical Science)

HND in Nautical Science (HND-NS) is an international maritime qualification designed to train students for Deck Officer careers with global opportunities.

Course Highlights:

  • Duration: 1+1 Years ( 1st Year In INDIA + 2nd Year In UK )
  • Internationally recognized Diploma
  • Leads to Diploma in Nautical Science DNS & BSC in Nautical Science
  • Strong focus on: Navigation, Marine communication, Ship safety, Maritime law

Eligibility:

  • 12th Pass with PCM
  • Age: From 17.5–25 years
  • English proficiency
  • Medically fit as per DG Shipping Norms & Global Marine Standards

Career Path : Deck Cadet →Third Officer → Second Officer → Chief Officer → Captain

Outcome:

Students receive Pre-Sea Training Certificate from MCA UK Approved Institutes in India and become eligible to join ships as Deck Cadet

IMUCET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test)

IMUCET is a national-level entrance exam conducted by Indian Maritime University (IMU) for admission into Merchant Navy courses.

Courses through IMUCET:

  • DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science)
  • B.Sc Nautical Science
  • Marine Engineering
  • Other maritime programs

Exam Details:

  • Mode: Online (Computer Based Test)
  • Duration: 3 Hours
  • Subjects include:
  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • English
  • General Aptitude

Outcome:

  • Qualifying IMUCET allows students to take admission in DG Shipping approved maritime institutes in India.

STCW Course (Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping)

STCW is a mandatory basic safety training course required for all seafarers before joining a ship.

Course Highlights:

  • Duration: 15–20 Days
  • Mandatory for joining ships
  • Includes: Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Ship Duties, Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting, First Aid, Personal Safety & Social Responsibility

Eligibility:

  • 10th Passed with 40% & 40 Marks in English
  • Age: From 17.5–25 years
  • Medically fit as per DG Shipping Norms & Global Marine Standards

Outcome:

  • Students receive CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate) and become eligible to join Merchant ships & Cruise Ships

Importance: No seafarer can join a ship without completing STCW certification.
